Not ‘just giving’ back!

I’m not entirely sure why anyone would use the term “just giving” – to give is one of the most incredible and important things that we can do. I know you don’t want to work with companies that aren’t passionate, purpose driven, responsible and ethical and I don’t want to run one.

So not only does working with Live Like You Mean It help to build an incredible community of passion filled, purpose driven, strong mindful and determined individuals who offer so much to the world, we share our strength in numbers and our good fortune, and give back through supporting special projects around the world too!

Sometimes human based projects, sometimes conservation based projects, we are giving to ensure that the world becomes stronger, more resilient and more beautiful and gets to grow positively each and every day through our Live Like You Mean It community.

Through investing in yourself, we, together, are investing in the world. Each month we give to a new project to ensure we spread the growth evenly and like we mean it…Imagine the butterfly effect!

Tree App.

I have wanted to share the love of Tree App for a while and decided that this was a great way to do so.

Tree App is a free app that you can download from your App Store, that allows you to plant a freeeeeee tree every day, out in the wild, where it is really needed! Tree App work with forest restoration companies such as Eden Restoration and CEPAN, to ensure that the right species are planted in the right areas at the right time. The tree species that are selected are chosen to help the local wildlife to not just survive but thrive and to help local people to be able to make a living, through the restoration of mangrove sites to the plantation of fruit and nut trees.

Each day, you can watch a thirty second video in which an eco friendly business gets to promote itself to you, most of which plant another tree for purchases made through their websites, and then regardless of whether you purchase or not, you get to plant a tree for free, in your country of choice. There are 13 countries/ projects around the world and you can choose to plant and support whichever areas you please. There is a project in the UK that supports planting in all four corners of the UK, so you can even make a difference on your own doorstep!

This month, we paid for 100 trees to be planted across the two projects that they support in Madagascar! Mangrove trees are being planted in their coastal project to help with the rehabilitation of the rare Dugong and the critically endangered Hawksbill turtle, whilst their inland project is battling to support the ecosystems of the lemur, chameleons and tenrec… the cutest little Malgasy hedgehog you will ever see! To learn more about it and get involved download the app for free in your app store, or visit them at https://www.thetreeapp.org

Save the Rhino International.

Did you know that a rhino is poached every 16 hours?

Or that there are less than 80 Javan rhinos and as few as 34-47 Sumatran rhinos left in the wild?

We donated £100 on Giving Tuesday (day after Cyber Monday) and were delighted to know that long term donors were tripling all donations on that day, so our £100 become £300! Save The Rhino International is a project close to my heart and one that I have supported for nearly twenty years now, and loved watching go from strength to strength. They support all five species of rhino across Africa and Asia and through their length of service and experience, work closely with in- situ teams on the ground to ensure that the money goes as far and deeply as possible.

With rhino populations confined to National parks in Java and Sumatra and the majority in parks in Africa too, managing the remaining populations has many complications, including but not exclusively preventing poaching (small concentrated areas in which to find them), preventing inbreeding and maximising gene diversity, and funding anti poaching patrol teams, vets and protection guards to ensure the few remaining have the chance to survive and thrive once more.

Save the Rhino International fund a great deal of essential work, both in the National Parks and in the local community. It all starts and stops with getting the local communities involved, caring for and protecting their local rhinos and wider wildlife and ensuring their local habitats aren’t deforested or degraded. There are slow signs of amazing recovery and rewards for all rhino conservation efforts – Javan rhinos are thought to number 76 in the wild, up from an all-time low of just 25 back in 1967, and black rhino numbers have more than doubled from the early 1990’s from around 2,500 to over 6,000 today! If you want to donate to help continue to the fight to save this amazing species, please head to https://www.savetherhino.org/

And as an added dollop of amazing feel-good rhino news, a precious new baby Sumatran Rhino was born on the 25th November 2023! 🎉 🦏

Plastic Oceans International.

For January, we are very proud to support Plastic Oceans International. Plastic Oceans International is a US-based non-profit organisation whose goal is to end plastic pollution and to foster sustainable communities worldwide. They operate with the belief that we can and must act locally in order to create change globally, and they do so through four key pillars of activity: Education, Activism, Advocacy, and Science.

Through supportive programmes aligned with their pillars, and driven by embracing the circular economy, our mission is to inspire and incite action that can lead to changes in the consumer behaviour, corporate practices and public policy. Collectively, these changes will lead to a reduction in plastic pollution, regenerative communities and a healthier planet for many years to come! Here’s to that!  And thank you Live Like you Mean it Community for all your support! This month we have donated £100 to them!

Because I said I would.

What a perfect project to start with! A non-profit American social movement dedicated to the betterment of humanity through promises made and kept. They are changing lives through character development programs and volunteer projects in partnership with schools, juvenile detention centres, prisons and communities. I have supported this beautiful project for years and this month we have donated £100 to the new camp that they are building for teenagers and young adults to attend and build resiliency skills to go forward into their future stronger than ever before! Thank you all for the part you play in helping this incredible charity.
